Two new motorised roller doors, supplied and installed in a single visit in Camden South. Here’s what the job involved, why the customer chose roller doors over sectional, and what’s worth knowing about garage doors out in the Macarthur area.
The Job
Suburb: Camden South, NSW
Doors: Two Gliderol roller doors
Work: Supply and install with automatic openers
Completed: Same day
A double garage with two separate openings, each needing its own door. The existing doors were at the end of their life — the customer replaced both together rather than doing one now and one later, which is almost always the better call. Matching finishes, one visit, and one set of remotes that work on both.
Why Roller Doors Here
Headroom. A roller door curls into a barrel above the opening rather than running back along the ceiling on tracks. Where a garage has limited clearance above the door, or storage and beams in the way, a roller avoids the problem entirely.
Two openings, two doors. Each door operates independently. One can stay closed while the other is in use — useful when one side is a workshop or storage rather than parking.
Cost across two doors. Roller doors are generally more economical than sectional, and that gap widens when you’re buying two at once.
Why Gliderol. Gliderol has been manufacturing in Australia since 1976 and their roller doors are built for local conditions, which matters more than people expect — a door specified for a milder climate doesn’t cope as well with the temperature range you get out in the Macarthur area. Parts availability is also strong, so servicing them years down the track is straightforward rather than a hunt for components. We install and service all the major brands, and Gliderol is one we’re comfortable recommending for roller applications.
Sectional doors have their own advantages — better insulation, more finish options, and no barrel needed above the opening. We talk both through on every quote. For this garage, roller was the better fit. Our guide on roller versus sectional doors covers the comparison in more detail.
What the Install Involved
- Measure and check. Both openings measured, side room and headroom confirmed, lintels checked for square. Both came up true, which meant no packing or adjustment was needed and the install ran straight through — not always the case on older builds.
- Remove the old doors. Both removed and taken away.
- Fit the new doors. Barrels, guides and brackets fixed, doors hung and tensioned so each sits level and runs smoothly by hand before any motor goes on.
- Install the openers. A motor on each door, wired and mounted.
- Program and test. Remotes paired to both doors, travel limits set, safety reverse tested on each.
- Balance check. Released from the opener and lifted by hand, a properly balanced door stays where you leave it. Both passed.

What’s Different About Garage Doors in Camden
Camden and the wider Macarthur area sit further inland than most of the suburbs we service, and that changes what fails and when.
Coastal suburbs — Bondi, Cronulla, the Northern Beaches — lose springs and cables to salt corrosion years earlier than anywhere else in Sydney. Camden doesn’t have that problem. What it does have is bigger temperature swings and more exposure to dust, westerly winds and storm debris. Doors out here tend to fail mechanically, from cycles and wear, rather than from rust.
Practically, a well-installed door in Camden should give you a long service life — but the annual balance and lubrication check matters more here than it does closer to the coast. Grit works into guides and rollers, and a door running dry wears far faster than one that’s maintained. Our maintenance checklist covers what to look at between services.

Thinking About New Doors?
Whether it’s one door or a pair, we’ll measure up and quote on the spot with a fixed price before any work starts. No obligation — and we’ll tell you honestly if a repair makes more sense than a replacement. A door with life left in it doesn’t need replacing.
Every install is backed by our 1-Year Labour Warranty, on top of the manufacturer warranty on the door and motor.
